Mechanical Wind Watch
Timekeeping with no battery and no charge. Loses seconds a day, and never goes flat.
Scenario
They were already here. They were just waiting.
They did not arrive. They came up. Whatever was buried under the roads has been there longer than the roads, and it activated on a schedule nobody was consulted about. The cars stopped in the same minute across three continents.
What kills you
Being outdoors, visible, and moving.
Rules
Anything with a circuit may be a paperweight. This will not be.
Timekeeping with no battery and no charge. Loses seconds a day, and never goes flat.
The most quietly devastating single point of failure in any pantry.
A manual opener that does not care about power. The pivot is the wear point; steel outlasts alloy.
You are walking now, and you cannot carry a household on your back.
Moves weight you cannot carry, over ground a wheeled case cannot manage.
Navigation that does not depend on a satellite anyone else controls.
Every road in the country, with no signal, no battery and no server behind it.
Warm when wet, which is the only specification that matters outdoors.
Insulates when damp, which cotton does not, and resists flame better than synthetics.
